Great Outdoors

At Llanover Day Nursery we are very lucky to have lots of outdoor space. Our country-side location means that we have ample room for our little ones to learn and play outside all year round.

As well as 3 playgrounds and a small field, we also have an extra patch of land that we are developing into our very own Forest School. This means that our children have lots of access to outside space every single day, whatever the weather, helping to make them healthier and happier!

Our most recent inspection report praised our use of the outdoors, saying that "there was a well-planned outdoor area and they had regular access to a developing forest school area as well. The nature of the setting lent itself well to encouraging children to move around freely."

There are so many benefits to learning and playing outdoors. Our children find out about animals and minibeasts, the seasons, the weather, plants and trees and much more besides. Recent studies have even shown that children who grow up with regular access to this sort of space have improved memories and thinking skills (see full article here).

We are very proud of our Forest School. We keep the grass a bit longer, the plants a bit wilder and we give children the freedom to explore. We hunt for mini-beasts, build obstacle courses, make mud-pies and get noisy with our outdoor musical instruments. Everyone at our nursery is able to make use of the space, as the ground is level and it is easily accessed, right next door to our main building. Most recently our Ladybirds have been planting sunflowers and enjoying circle time in our new log circle.

If you would like to find out more about our Forest School, or any of our learning activities, arrange a visit with us today!
